Shift/Hours

Must be available to work the follow schedule. 

  • Monday-Friday 7AM-3:30PM. 
  • Must be flexible and willing to work some overtime. 
  • On-call rotation. 

Primary Role

To perform a variety of tasks in supervising and participating in the locating, laying, repairing and extending underground water mains and distribution pipes.

Key Accountabilities

  • Sets up barricades and places safety lights around work site to protect workers from street traffic.
  • Breaks up asphalt and concrete, using pneumatic power tools for trenching and compaction.
  • Manual digging of valve boxes and curb boxes using shovel and digging bar.
  • Guide pipe sections, valves and fittings into position and holds pieces steady while worker tightens connections.
  • Tapping into pressurized water mains.
  • Flaring and connecting copper and plastic piping.
  • Installation of repair clamp on pressurized water mains and service lines.
  • Operation of valves and fire hydrants.
  • Investigates complaints and determines corrective action per Company procedure.
  • Operating of pneumatic and/or hydraulic boring equipment.
  • Completes all necessary forms, sketches and field notes and be knowledgeable of usage of maps and records.
  • Drives vehicles and/or trucks in performance of general job.
  • Direct the activities of any personnel assigned.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Skillfully use hand tools or machines needed for your work.
  • Measure, cut or otherwise work on materials or objects with great precision.
  • Use arithmetic or shop geometry to figure amounts of material needed, dimensions to be followed and cost of material.
  • Picture what the finished product will look like.
  • Accept responsibility for the volume and accuracy of work.
  • Work outdoor with no effective protection from the weather.
  • Pass Department of Transportation's physical examination.

 

Math Skills:

  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide.

 

Language Skills:

  • Must be able to: Read and understand instructions, safety rules, maps, diagrams, etc. Write reports in proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech. Speak simple sentences. Draw sketches. Speak with poise, voice control and confidence using correct English.

Experience/Education

  • High school graduate or equivalent and three years in construction, plumbing or building trades.
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to pass motor vehicle background check.
  • Ability to obtain DOT Medical card.

  • Both: Inside and outside.

  • Wet and Humid: Contact with water or other liquids. Atmospheric conditions with moisture content sufficiently high to cause marked bodily discomfort.
  • Noise and Vibration: Sufficient noise, either constant or intermittent, to cause marked distraction.
  • Hazards: Situations in which the individual is exposed to the definite risk of bodily injury.
  • Exposure to: Odors, toxic conditions, chemical dusts or dusts or poor ventilation. Ability to wear a respirator and work in confined spaces.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting 50 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
