Primary Role
To operate, control, repair and maintain, in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operating manuals, and manufacturer’s specifications, machinery, and mechanical equipment used to process water treatment residuals using hand tools, power tools, precision measuring and testing instruments.
Position Responsiblities
- Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
- Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools.
- Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
- Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements, using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
- Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
- Repairs or replaces defective parts, using hand and power tools.
- May set up and operate drill press, grinder, and other metal working tools to make repairs or repair parts.
- Acquire materials for repairs to machinery or to maintain orderly flow of materials and processes.
- Repair, install, and perform preventive testing of electrical equipment.
- Repair, install, and perform preventive testing of process control equipment.
- Maintain records, drawings, and reports within area of responsibility.
- Perform treatment plant operator duties.
- Operate and maintain sludge dewatering equipment.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge/Skills
- Skillfully use hand tools or machines needed for your work.
- Read blueprints or drawings of the items to made or repaired.
- Measure, cut or otherwise work on materials or objects with great precision.
- Use arithmetic or shop geometry to figure amounts of material needed, dimensions to be followed and cost of material.
- Picture what the finished product will look like.
- Accept responsibility for the accuracy of the work as it is turned out.
- Differentiate between colors.
- Read and understand instructions, safety rules, state/federal regulations, etc.
- Write reports with proper format
- Speak with poise, voice control and confidence, well modulated voice.
- Math Skills: Requires mathematical development sufficient to be able to: Calculate surface, volume, weights and measures. Calculate square roots, variable formulas. Calculate plane and solid figures circumference, area and volume. Understand kind of angles, and properties of pairs and angles.
Experience/Education
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Two years experience working in electrical, mechanical, and/or process instrumentation and equipment.
- Must possess a valid PA driver’s license.
- Company, state, federal, private, or county sponsored courses will be attended to improve job skills. Applicant will obtain Pennsylvania Operator Certification within allotted time frames set forth in the bargaining agreement.
Work Environment
- Physical Demands: Lifting 100 lbs maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Stooping. Kneeling. Crouching. Crawling. Reaching. Walking up and down flights of stairs. Working in confined areas. Climbing up and down ladders. Work on a ladder.

Hazards: Situations in which the individual is exposed to the definite risk of bodily injury. Exposure to: Odors, toxic conditions, chemical dust or dust or poor ventilation. Ability to wear a respirator and work in confined spaces.
