This position is a union position with Illinois American Water and the starting pay rate is $31.30 per hour.

Primary Role

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Perform J.U.L.I.E. locates. Perform b-box and valveinspections and maintenance/exercising, fire hydrant flushing inspections, leak detection, reads, tests, and/orinstalls water meters when needed and performs customer service functions when needed. Work with utility crewsand customers performing various water and sewer utility repairs, maintenance, installs, and a high level ofcustomer service/awareness. This includes working on main breaks, sanitary sewer backups, and jet flushingsewers. Willingness to perform any and all job related functions when needed. Maintain and keep equipment inproper and safe operating condition. Complete required paperwork and investigations. Information must beaccurate, complete, detailed, and on time. Works with teams or alone to complete assigned projects on time.Operate various heavy equipment and vehicles such as dump trucks, water pumps, jackhammers, sewer jetcleaning, vacuum, equipment, tv equipment, etc. Effectively operate various equipment such as line locators,metal locators, pressure gauges, sawz all, augers, b-box keys, and valve insertion machines.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of, and ability to use, basic computer/field laptops and programs.
  • Knowledge of sewer repair, rehab, replacement and maintenance preferred.

Experience/Education

  • H.S. Diploma/GED.
  • Qualified candidates must possess a high school diploma or the equivalent, the ability to perform mathematical calculations related to the job with accuracy, and the ability to communicate effectively with external andinternal customers.
  • Possession of a CDL – class A license with air break endorsement.
  • Tanker endorsement license preferred.
  • Ability to read, install and test water meters.
  • Ability to walk routes and use meter reading equipment.
  • Ability to effectively operate, adjust and repair b-box, hydrants and value boxes.

Ability to physically perform manual labor including working overtime when required.
