Position Information
Posted Range: $32.07/hour
This position may be eligible for annual incentive pay and contracted increases as determined by the collective bargaining agreement, and you will have the opportunity for continued salary growth.

Primary Role
The Utility Worker position exists to perform a variety of tasks to ensure efficent and reliable operation, maintenance, protection and appearance of all pipelines; services hydrants, valves and other appurtenances.
Key Accountabilities
- Performs all functions of the position in a safe and conscientious manner, with constant regard for the safety of fellow employees and the general public.
- Erects barricades and places safety lights around work sites to protect workers from street traffic; may flag traffic as required.
- Ensure sites are secure before leaving Interprets system maps and field locates water company assets, remove and install water meters; Inspects, disassembles, and repairs damaged or malfunctioning control devices of water distribution systems, using hand and/or power tools.
- Will break up pavement, using air hammer or other tools; manually digs ditches in preparation of laying or removing pipe or service lines; maneuvering pipe sections, valves and fittings in to position.
- Must be able to lift and manuever equipment and materials of varying weights up to 50 lbs.
- Backfills excavations using compaction equipment on dirt, crusted stone and cold-mix; may operate small backhoe.
- Inspect meters, valves, hydrants, and pipes to detect leaks or malfunctioning.
- Tighten pipe connections to prevent leaks using wrenches and other hand tools as required.
- Use technology to prepare requisitions and/or reports to appropriately maintain service records.
- May be assigned to perform responsibilities either individually or in conjunction with other employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned, such as Meter Reading and Field Service work.
Knowledge/Skills
- Must possess basic geographical knowledge of company's service area and must be adaptable to variations in topography and weather conditions.
- Working knowledge of company policies, procedures and safety practices as well as regulations regarding confined spaces.
Experience/Education
- Able to operate company equipment and vehicles necessary for completion of assigned responsibilities.
- Possess general labor experience to include excavation and backfill.
- Must possess a GED/High School Diploma.
Work Environment
- Typical outdoor work environment.
Other
- May work overtime as required.
- Must maintain a valid drivers license and safe driving record.
- Must maintain DOT certification.
