Primary Role

The purpose of this position is to perform maintenance on wastewater treatment plant equipment. This is accomplished by performing preventative maintenance on equipment; repairing malfunctioning equipment; modifying existing equipment to improve operating efficiency or ease of maintenance; replacing existing equipment with new units; performing maintenance to buildings; attending safety and equipment training. Other duties include performing ground maintenance.

Key Accountabilities

  • Performs preventative maintenance on WWTP equipment to comply with all safety procedures by collecting oil samples from aerator and mixer gearboxes; changing oil; inspecting equipment for leaks, vibration, temperature and odor; reviewing Preventative Work Order list and returning completed work orders; removing blockages from process piping; using high pressure cleaning equipment; chemically cleaning sand filters; determining parts needed for maintenance; taking collected materials to landfill; cleaning tanks ultra violet lamps.
  • Repairs malfunctioning equipment by determining causes for malfunctioning; replacing seals and bearings; replacing pump lobes and impellers; reviewing repair work order list; repairing or replacing underground pipes; re-building pumps and gearboxes.
  • Making modifications to existing equipment by designing, configuring and fabricating piping to make better access to equipment; installing pumps at various locations; changing pumps or motor configuration; updating existing poor-performing equipment with newer more efficient equipment; adding chemicals to pumps to dissolve buildup.
  • Performs building and ground maintenance by replacing broken windows, lamps, fixtures and doors; painting walls and floors; mowing grass; removing snow; working with concrete; removing trees; and installing blacktop.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Basic technical skills appropriate to the work environment.
  • Intermediate level knowledge of math (practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions, measurements).
  • Intermediate level knowledge in writing reports, expositions, and summaries.

Experience/Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-3+ years of experience.

Certifications

  • CDL Class B with tanker and air brakes preferred.
  • A DOT and WorkSteps physical are required for this position.

Other

Physical Demands include:

  • Frequent: lifting heavy, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending, twisting, climbing, balancing, talking, driving and operating heavy equipment.
  • Constant walking, utilizing computers/tablets, communication via telephone/listening to equipment.
  • Utilizing power tools, hand tools, backhoes, drill presses, welders, brake presses, milling machines, drills, dumpster trucks, crane trucks, power washers, and other tools.

The position requires the use of PPE including safety glasses, face shields, rubber gloves, leather gloves, chemical aprons, safety harnesses, and gas monitors. 

The position interacts heavily with chemical hazards, fire hazards, explosives.
