Job Description: 

Primary Role

Oversee the day to day wastewater system operations in accordance with the Company policies, practices and procedures and all applicable governmental laws and regulations. Responsibilities include but not limited to management of personnel, capital resources, maintenance services, health & safety and environmental compliance ensuring cost-effective, high-quality customer service and operational reliability. Support operation of the wastewater facilities within the North Region as needed.

Key Accountabilities

  • Supervise and coordinate construction, operations, and maintenance within established budget limitations.
  • Manage contractors and vendors for effective and efficient delivery of the Company operational and capital budgets.
  • Assure policies, procedures, programs and performance are adhered to ensure the continuing and increasing operational efficiency, effectiveness, and profitability.
  • Train and develop personnel in proper operational integrity (quality, environment, reliability, health, safety, security, etc.) is maintained.
  • Obtain all required permits, licenses, rights of way, etc. required for proper compliance.
  • Involve in customer service related issues.
  • Implement and foster the coaching and development of employees, including idea generation, within respective functional areas.
  • Support the Business Development function in the operational analysis pricing and integration of water and wastewater business opportunities in both the regulated and non-regulated markets.
  • Support manager to ensure effective people management policies and practices are developed and implemented (e.g., time and attendance, workforce management, etc.) and ensure resources are developed and deployed appropriately.
  • Reinforce the importance of developing a diverse workforce.
  • Work collaboratively with other functional leads to mitigate business risks.
  • Effective communicate at all levels of Company operations. Provide effective leadership that will enhance our abilities to be flexible to changing business environments.
  • Contribute to effective communication by listening and providing constructive feedback; supporting the creation of an open and honest work environment; cascading and sharing knowledge and information relevant to other members of the team and colleagues across the business.
  • Be available for on-call duties during after-hour, weekend and holidays and during emergencies.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of the regulated wastewater utility business and its operations.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations, requirements and trends impacting the wastewater business, as it exists throughout America Water locations and areas of new business opportunities.
  • Knowledge of the assessment of operating practices and the establishment of best practices.
  • Experience with computer applications such as MS Word, Excel and other office administrative tools

Experience/Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in operational discipline, management, or related technical discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Two (2) years of previous supervisory experience in wastewater utility operation.

Work Schedule

  • Full-time, on-site
  • Monday-Friday, day shift
  • On-call responsibility 

Travel Requirements

  • Up to 50% within the state
  • Local and regional travel

 

Certifications & Licenses

  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Certifications/training in safety preferred
  • S-2 and C-2 (or higher) NJ DEP licensing

Other Requirements

Physical/Cognitive Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, and walk for long periods of time.
  • Lift minimum 25lbs.
  • Occasional hands on work required
