Primary Role

Directs and performs a variety of tasks to assist in the work of a crew or crews engaged in the construction, maintenance and operation of water works facilities.

Key Accountabilities

  • Assigns duties to department employees as directed. Installs and maintains water pipelines, services, valves, pumps, meters, tank connections and other water facilities. 
  • Trains and rates the work performance of crew members. Completes all company reports related to crew. 
  • Determines staff, equipment and materials needed for each job.
  • Enforces safety regulations as required for the assigned work. 
  • Inspects meters, valves, hydrants, and pipes to detect defects such as leaks or malfunctioning meters; tightens pip connections as needed.
  • Investigates customer complaints. May record meter readings.
  • May break-up pavement to dig excavations in preparation to remove or repair pipe Performs work as assigned by supervisor. 

Experience/Education

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 3 years in construction, plumbing or building trades.
