Primary Role
The Project Delivery Engineer is responsible for delivering capital projects for water and wastewater systems. Works with operational staff to verify proposed projects meet operational needs. Responsibilities include supervision of consulting engineers and construction contractors.
Key Accountabilities
- Help establish project budget and scope.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and meet operational needs.
- Assist with leading and managing water and wastewater engineering projects from inception to completion.
- Oversees development of detailed project plans and specifications for water and wastewater infrastructure projects: sewer systems, distribution systems, treatment plants, and pump stations.
- Assist with multiple small to medium size projects and perform varied engineering assignments associated with planning, design and construction.
- Develop technical information and design concepts into successful engineering solutions.
- Hire consulting firms and construction contractors by using a competitive selection process.
- Ensure the company safety program is followed by internal employees and external contractors.
Knowledge/Skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of engineering design theory and practice.
- Familiarity with project management, construction and contract management, water and wastewater facilities, and utility operations.
- Knowledge of current trends in water quality and treatment and other aspects of the water industry.
- Familiarity with environmental regulatory requirements, and trends impacting the water industry.
- Effective quantitative and analytical skills; attention to detail.
- Ability to provide schedule analysis to time project execution / completion to meet business needs and budgeting requirements.
- Effective verbal and written communications skills (e.g., report writing, listening, and presentation).
- Strong interpersonal skills (e.g., tact/diplomacy, persuasion, team building, cooperation, leadership, ability to motivate others.)
- Financial analysis skill, including budget management, business modeling, and basic accounting knowledge.
- Manage project budget. perform project accounting, review and process invoices.
- Familiarity with project management and accounting software.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite of programs
Experience/Education
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering; advanced degree preferred
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in Engineering design, construction, project delivery and/or project management.
- Water and/or wastewater utility experience is a plus.
- Water and wastewater treatment plant experience is a plus.
Travel Requirements
- Up to 30%, as needed
- Travel to various project locations within 60 miles of office.
Certifications & Licenses
- Valid Driver’s License
- Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certificate with intent to obtain P.E. preferred
Work Environment
- Primarily in the office with visits to water/wastewater facilities to conduct site investigations, observe construction progress and attend meetings.
- Permissible to work up to 2 days per week remotely when appropriate and with supervisor’s permission.
