Primary Role

The Water Plant Operator Apprentice position is for operation and maintenance of the Saint Joseph groundwater treatment facility, well field, booster stations and tanks in the St. Joseph District including daily operations and maintenance. He/she must follow all work and safety rules established by the Company.

This role will require a work schedule of Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 7am to 3pm. Friday and Saturday 3pm to 11pm.

Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for daily operations & maintenance activity in the production department as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities.
  • Assist with the preparation of maintenance projects as required.
  • Make required in source of supply and treatment operation to ensure water quality compliance, maintain optimum efficiency, and overall plant safety.
  • Fill out required production report forms.
  • All other duties assigned by the Supervisor or Superintendent.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the usage of distribution maps and construction plans in any format and how to locate the various distribution facilities.
  • Direct production personnel and make decisions when required.
  • Encourages and maintains a safe work environment.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and tempurtures.
  • Capable of performing duties with minimal supervision.
  • Possesses a working knowledge of personal computers, RTU's and programmable logic controllers.

Education

High School diploma or equivalent required

Certifications/Licenses

  • Must have or be able to obtain a MODNR Class A Water Operator Certification.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License
  • Must meet the physical requirements of the position.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, push, and pull all day

 

Work Environment

  • Must be able to lift heavy objects, up to 50 pounds
  • Able to work in various weather conditions and temperatures.
  • Must be available for after-hours work and other emergencies as necessary.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and temperatures.

Other

  • Ability to communicate and work well with outside contractors, customers, and co-workers.
  • Have a good understanding of the operation of the treatment facility process, well field operation, distribution booster stations and storage tanks as well as the operation and maintenance required for all equipment.
  • This includes pumps, motors and chemical feed equipment.
  • Direct the production personnel and be able to make decisions when problems arise.
  • Encourage and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Be capable of working with minimal supervision.
  • Possess a working knowledge of personal computers and posses the ability to obtain a working knowledge of RTU's and of programmable logic controllers.
  • Must be available for after-hours and other emergencies.
  • Basic computer skills needed
