The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. This position is eligible for annual incentive pay and has the opportunity for continued salary growth. If you are hired at American Water your base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as market, geography, skills, education and/or experience. Primary Role
Responsible for organizing and performing advanced functions and activities related to ensuring that our wastewater facilities are in compliance with the monitoring and reporting requirements of Illinois EPA. Primary focus is on compliance with the influent and effluent limitations, monitoring, and reporting.
Key Accountabilities
- Manage monitoring and reporting programs to ensure compliance with federal and state wastewater regulations.
- Prepare, review, and maintain monitoring schedules.
- Ensure compliance samples are collected within appropriate timeframes.
- Track compliance with the limits outlined in the NPDES permit.
- Ensure accuracy of results reporting.
- Be a liaison between IL Water Quality staff and the labs we utilize to analyze our samples.
- Support IL Water Quality by being a resource for wastewater compliance information, training, and troubleshooting.
- Assist with drinking water compliance tasks as needed.
- Track Special Conditions sampling requirements.
Knowledge/Skills
- Knowledge of federal and state wastewater standards and regulations, wastewater treatment processes, and analytical testing principles is preferred.
- Strong computer skills, especially Microsoft Office.
- Good attention to detail.
Experience/Education
- Experience in water, wastewater, and laboratory operations preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, or related field – or 5-10 years’ experience working in water, wastewater or laboratory operations.
Certifications & Licenses
- Valid Driver’s License.
- IL Wastewater License preferred.
Travel Requirements
- Local and regional.
- Rare overnight travel may be required.

- Office environment.
- Can include occasional outdoor work and treatment plant environment.
