Primary Role

The Operator-Maintenance Mechanic I may be assigned to perform any responsibility that lies within the capability of the employee based on experience, knowledge, qualifications, and training.

Qualifications and Requirements

The Operator-Maintenance Mechanic I must possess a working knowledge of all facets of water treatment operations including hydraulic, chemical and electrical equipment and processes, in addition to a thorough understanding of the distribution system network including, but not limited to, gradients, capacities, interconnections, mapping, service territory and facility locations, to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the water treatment facility and related appurtenances.


The individual must possess a working knowledge of Company policies, procedures, and safety practices, as well as state and federal regulations applicable to area of responsibility and may be required to become a certified Emergency Responder.


The Operator-Maintenance Mechanic I must be capable of operating equipment and vehicles necessary for the completion of assignments and must possess and maintain a valid New Jersey Drivers’ License.


The Operator-Maintenance Mechanic I will be required to pass a qualification examination developed by the Company prior to the conclusion of the qualification period.

 

The Operator Maintenance Mechanic I will also be required to attain a T-2 License in accord with the educational and operational criteria established by the State of New Jersey.


The individual will also be required to pass an initial and annual OSHA medical examination and must be able to perform the essential functions and meet the physical requirements for Operator-Maintenance Mechanic I.
 

Scope of Responsibilities

Operator-Maintenance Mechanic I responsibilities will normally be, but are not limited to:

 

  • Operate remote water treatment facilities including but not limited to, iron removal plants, ASR stations, wells, booster stations, interconnects and related appurtenances including, but not limited to, chemical feeders, pumps, clarification units ,and standby generation and residual processing equipment, to insure the safe, reliable production and delivery of the highest quality water.
  • Review, monitor, and adjust hydraulic and chemical processes to achieve and maintain established water quality standards and system requirements.
  • Operate and adjust computer control systems to insure the integrity of remote water treatment facilities, transmission, and distribution systems, and remote hydraulic and chemical systems.
  • Prioritize and coordinate tasks and/or activities required for the efficient, safest, and reliable operation of water treatment facilities and related appurtenances.
  • Respond to inquiries accurately and professionally, and when necessary involve the appropriate individuals, to resolve customer and company-related issues and to achieve the highest level of customer service in all areas of assigned responsibilities.
  • Receive chemicals and materials in accordance with established company, state, and/or federal safety standards and/or practices.
  • Maintain the appearance of remote water treatment facilities and grounds in accord with Company standards.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate remote facility and system records and reports.
  • Collect water samples, as directed, and in accord with established water quality procedures.
  • Perform water treatment tests and evaluate water samples, as directed, to ensure water quality is within established parameters, and, if necessary, adjust treatment processes to insure the integrity of the water supply.
  • Perform and/or assist with repairs to, and the maintenance of, equipment and facilities such as, but not limited to, chemical pump cleaning, piping repairs and modifications, cleaning and painting of equipment and structures, machinery lubrication, pump adjustments, equipment analysis and data collection, vibration, temperature, and electrical readings, and analytical water testing equipment.
  • Assists in all phases of production facilities’ operations as required.
  • The Operator-Maintenance Mechanic I may be assigned to work all or a portion of scheduled hours of work at any production facility.

 

Operator-Maintenance Mechanic I responsibilities when not assigned Operational duties during “Non Peak Demand Operations” may include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Perform and/or assist with repairs to, and the maintenance of, equipment and facilities such as, but not limited to, chemical feed pump cleaning, piping repairs and modifications, cleaning and painting of equipment and structures, machinery lubrication, pump adjustments, equipment analysis and data collection, vibration, temperature, and electrical readings, and analytical water testing equipment.
  • Perform the responsibilities of Utility Mechanic I/II, Customer Field Representative, and/or Meter Reader based on experience, knowledge, qualifications, and training.
  • The Operator-Maintenance Mechanic I may be assigned to work all or a portion of scheduled hours of work at any company facility.
     

Other

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Drivers license with ability to pass a motor vehicle check

 

  • Work schedule is a rotating 12 hour shift

Advancement

The Operator-Maintenance Mechanic I may advance to Operator-Maintenance Mechanic II when a vacancy is posted and provided the individual meets the qualifications and requirements for Operator-Maintenance Mechanic II.
 

Notification Requirements

Notification of changes to and from Operational and Maintenance Schedules will be made in accordance with the contract.
