Position Information
$59,488 - $96,382 - Hourly: 28.60 - 46.33
The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. This position is eligible for annual incentive pay and has the opportunity for continued salary growth. If you are hired at American Water your base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as market, geography, skills, education and/or experience. Primary Role
- Assist in implementing environmental compliance programs related to drinking water, wastewater, air quality, and waste management at assigned facilities.
- Coordinate and compile regulatory compliance reports.
- Coordinate external inspections programs such as those conducted by Certified Unified Program Agencies (CUPA) and California Air Districts.
- Coordinate with operations and assist in resolving deficiencies identified by various inspections
- Assist in investigating water quality complaints in the field and determines course of action needed.
- Assist in monitoring samples tracking and reporting.
- Implement programs to ensure environmental compliance including drafting plans and reports and compiling and analyzing data relating to compliance and process quality control work.
Key Accountabilities
- Continuously evaluates environmental monitoring and control programs and processes and makes enhancements or improvements to maintain or improve compliance with federal and state regulations and company approved environmental standards relating to drinking water quality, air quality, waste disposal, water discharges, and impacts to endangered or threatened species.
- Obtain, prepare, file, and maintain all reports and records to ensure compliance with federal and state environmental regulations and company approved water quality standards. Maintains required permits and makes any necessary modifications and renewals. Ensures timely regulatory compliance program submissions.
- Continuously evaluates water/wastewater treatment, recommend modifications, and identify potential issues and problems and initiate responsive actions and mitigate environmental violations.
- Conduct special projects and prepare reports as needed.
- Work with internal and external customers to build good relationships and solve issues. Assists in planning, preparation, and control the portion of the financial plan relating to responsibilities.
Knowledge/Skills
- Strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Thorough processing skills and good working knowledge of computer programs, databases, and software to support specific assignments.
- A demonstrated commitment to the environment.
- Knowledge of federal and state environmental standards and regulations, understanding of current environmental legislation and regulations, and regulatory knowledge of proper lab analytical testing methods is desirable.
Experience/Education
- Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences/Engineering or related field is preferred
- Up to two (2) years’ experience in water, wastewater, or environmental compliance is desirable.
- A 2-year degree in physical, chemical, or environmental sciences in combination with relevant experience may be substituted.
Certifications/Licenses
- One or more of State Water Resources Control Board Distribution System Operator, Treatment Operator or Wastewater Operator certification(s) are desirable.
- Valid Driver's License required as you will be required to drive to various sites
