Position Information
Pay Range: $55,700-$90,250/annually
The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. This position is eligible for annual incentive pay and has the opportunity for continued salary growth. If you are hired at American Water your base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as market, geography, skills, education and/or experience. At American Water, we are committed to pay equity.

Primary Role
New Jersey American Water has a new opportunity available for a Sr. Construction Inspector to join our team in Plainfield, NJ. With a focus on lead service line replacement projects, this role will be responsible for partnering with contractors, setting up and planning work, permitting, performing field investigations, as well as research and back-office support.
This role is responsible for the on-site inspection of construction work for water resource projects.
Key Accountabilities
- Conducts on-site inspections of construction projects to ensure conformance to contract documents. (50%)
- Oversees compliance with the requirements of permits or approvals granted for construction. Coordinate with permitting agencies for inspectons and certifications of compliance. (5%)
- Represents the Water Company as the primary point of on-site contact for construction contractors. Serve as a liasion between construction contractors and the Water Company. (15%)
- Serve as the on-site liasion between the engineering organization and construction contractors to resolve questions related to the engineering of assigned projects. (15%)
- Prepare project documentation in accordance with Company Standards. Maintains records of work changes and assists in preparation of "as built" drawings. (10%)
- Review and approval of construction contractor progress payments. (5%)
Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of engineering specifications and surveying principles
- Knowledge of construction means and methods
- Knowledge of federal and company safety regulations, and knowledge of critical path and method scheduling principles
Skills:
- Coordinating and organizing skills
- Ability to read engineering plans and specifications
- Communication skills (e.g., verbal, listening and recording)
- Interpersonal skills (e.g., tact/diplomacy, persuasion, cooperation)
- Attention to details
Experience/Education
- Four (4) years experience on major construction projects
- High School diploma
Work Schedule
- Full-time, on-site
- Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm
Work Environment
- Field and office work environment
Travel Requirements
- Local travel required
- Valid state driver's license
Certifications & Licenses
- NICET preferred
- Water and/or wastewater certification(s) is a plus
