Missouri American Water is hiring for 8–12 week, full-time summer positions supporting essential water infrastructure projects across the state. This is an opportunity to learn how critical systems operate, develop practical field experience, and work alongside experienced professionals in a safety-focused environment.

Key Accountabilities

💡 What You Will Do

  • Under the direction of experienced field professionals, you will:
    • Assist in field operations, maintenance, and infrastructure projects
    • Support hydrant maintenance, meter inspections, and service restorations
    • Use industry tools and equipment
    • Work both independently and as part of a team
    • Follow all safety procedures and environmental guidelines


☀️ About the Work

  • This is an active, outdoor position in Missouri summer heat. Most days will be spent in the field — inspecting hydrants, turning valves, painting, lifting equipment, and working alongside operational crews. There is no office component. This is a professional work environment. Employees are expected to arrive on time, follow safety procedures at all times, communicate effectively with supervisors, and complete assigned work responsibly. If you take pride in physical work, enjoy being outdoors, and want to understand how essential infrastructure supports your community — this is a strong opportunity to gain meaningful experience.

Experience/Education

📚 Qualifications & Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday
  • Ability to report to work for early morning start times (typically between 6:30–7:00 AM)
  • Physically able to work outdoors in summer heat and perform physical tasks

Work Environment

  • Must be physically able to work indoor or outdoor during seasonal heat and cold or other adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be physically able to complete necessary tasks while wearing approved personal protective equipment.
  • Must be able to remain alert and attentive to job requirements and co-workers.
  • Schedule: Days and hours will vary by location.
  • Must be able to work 40 hours per week.
