Missouri American Water is hiring a Senior Supervisor to lead our fleet and automotive business efforts in Olivette, MO. With around 1200 gas and diesel vehicles, construction equipment and other associated items, the Senior Supervisor will manage a team of mechanics and assigned work orders. In addition, this role will be responsible for ordering parts, paying invoices, ensuring vehicles are up-to-date with inspections, and working with dealerships and outside vendors on repairs.

 

 

Primary Role

Manage a fleet of 1200 plus vehicles and other equipment. Oversee all garage and service maintenance operations. Train, supervise and direct mechanics in all aspects of fleet maintenance and repairs associated with the service and maintenance of automobiles, trucks, heavy duty construction equipment, welding machines, compressors, generators, pumps, and other vehicles and equipment used throughout the system.

Key Accountabilities

  • Always enforce company safety standards and policies to ensure a safe and controlled workplace.
  • Ability to lead and develop mechanics and assigned personnel.
  • Ability to supervise and schedule mechanics, and coordinate maintenance and repairs for all company vehicles & equipment; determine in-house or outsourcing repairs.
  • Ability to assist mechanics and troubleshoot problems.
  • Ability and knowledge to inspect work performed by mechanics.
  • Ability to maintain service records of all vehicles with regard to repairs, parts usage, and needs.
  • Knowledge of repairs and maintenance of vehicles, equipment, understand all safety rules and regulations, and have knowledge about state and DOT inspections and other specifications.
  • Ability to evaluate and order parts and materials used to maintain various types of vehicles and equipment.
  • Train and develop personnel in proper operational integrity (quality, environment, reliability, health, safety, security, etc.) is maintained.
  • Obtains all required permits, licenses, rights of way, etc. required for proper compliance.
  • May be involved in customer service related issues.
  • Implement and foster the coaching and development of employees, including idea generation, within respective functional areas.
  • Supports manger to ensure effective people management policies and practices are developed and implemented (e.g., time and attendance, workforce management, etc.) and ensure resources are developed and deployed appropriately.
  • Continue to reinforce the importance of developing a diverse workforce.
  • Work collaboratively with other functional leads to mitigate business risks.
  • Implement effective communications at all levels of our operations.
  • Provide effective leadership that will enhance our abilities to be flexible to changing business environments.
  • Contribute to effective communication by listening and providing constructive feedback; supporting the creation of an open and honest work environment; cascading and sharing knowledge and information relevant to other members of the team and colleagues across the business.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of automotive-related experience
  • Familiarity with Missouri DOT regulations
  • Experience using garage management system(s) is a plus
  • Experience working in a Union setting is preferred

Experience/Education

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • ASE - Automotive Service Excellence certification required
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Certifications/Training in safety preferred
  • A minimum of 3 years of automotive experience
  • Must have prior supervisory experience

Work Environment

  • Indoor and outdoor environment
  • 24/7 operations
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, and walk for long periods of time
  • Lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
  • Occasional hands-on work required

  • Full-time, Monday-Friday
