Primary Role
Directs and performs a variety of tasks to assist in the work of a crew or crews engaged in the construction, maintenance and operation of water works facilities.
Essential Functions
- Assigns duties to department employees as directed.
- Installs and maintains water pipelines, services, valves, pumps, meters, tank connections and other water facilities.
- Trains and rates the work performance of crew members.
- Completes all company reports related to crew.
- Determines staff, equipment and materials needed for each job.
- Enforces safety regulations as required for the assigned work.
- Inspects meters, valves, hydrants, and pipes to detect defects such as leaks or malfunctioning meters; tightens pipe connections as needed.
- Investigates customer complaints.
- May record meter readings.
- May break-up pavement to dig excavations in preparation to remove or repair pipe.
- Performs work as assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge & Competencies
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
- Basic knowledge of electrical systems and instrumentation preferred.
Experience/Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years in construction, plumbing, and/or building trades.
Certifications & Licenses
- License requirements vary by state. Candidate must possess required licenses or have the ability to obtain within designated timeframe.
- Must be able to meet DOT physical requirements and possess valid driver’s license with safe driving record.
Work Environment
- Outdoor work during seasonal heat and cold, and other adverse weather conditions.
- Must be able to perform essential functions and meet the physical requirements for the position.
