Job Description: 

Primary Role

Performs a variety of tasks in assisting and participating in the locating, laying, repairing, and extending underground distribution pipes.

Key Accountabilities

  • Troubleshoots, installs, operates, maintains, inspects, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance duties on the equipment at the wastewater purification plants including, but not limited to, pumps, blowers, motors, chemical feed equipment, screens, mixers, filters, flow meters, gauges, valves, wash water processing equipment and related instrumentation and control equipment. Calibrates and adjusts chemical feed and process equipment including instrumentation and control systems.
  • Monitors the wastewater plant and adjusts as necessary to control their operations. Performs sampling, testing, and laboratory analysis to monitor process and determine compliance with Federal, State, and American Water’s standards. Performs necessary emergency operating procedures and takes proper corrective action for continuous effective operation of the water purification plants.
  • Maintains all necessary records, tools, and work equipment. Performs maintenance and custodial duties at the wastewater treatment plants.
  • Responsible for all associated processes on weekends or whenever assigned.
  • Responsible for maintaining and trouble shooting of sewage collection system and water distribution system.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Mechanical ability sufficient to understand the operation of pumps, valves, motors and other mechanical equipment related to operations and maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of distribution/collection systems.

Experience/Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year in construction, plumbing, and/or building trades.

Work Environment

  • Outdoor work during seasonal heat and cold, and other adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be able to perform essential functions and meet the physical requirements for the position.

Certifications & Licenses

  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to pass motor vehicle background check.

  • DOT Medical card or the ability to obtain. 
  • Class A CDL or the ability to obtain with in the required time period. 

  • Ability to obtain a DEP license within 3 years.
