Primary Role

The Operator-Maintenance Mechanic may be assigned to perform any responsibility that lies within the capabilities of the employee based on experience, knowledge, qualifications, and training.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • The Operator-Maintenance Mechanic II must possess a working knowledge of all facets of water treatment operations including hydraulic, chemical, and electrical equipment and processes, in addition to a thorough understanding of the distribution system network including, but not limited to, gradients, capacities, interconnections, mapping, service territory and facility locations, to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the water treatment facility and related appurtenances.
  • The individual must possess a working knowledge of Company policies, procedures, and safety practices, as well as state and federal regulations applicable to area of responsibility including, but not limited to, TCPA and OSHA, and will be required to become a certified Emergency Responder Technician.
  • The Operator-Maintenance Mechanic II must be capable of operating equipment and vehicles necessary for the completion of assignments and must possess and maintain a valid New Jersey Drivers’ License.
  • The Operator-Maintenance Mechanic II must possess a T-1 or W-1 License and will be required to pass a qualification examination developed by the Company prior to the conclusion of the qualification period and attain a T-2 License in accord with the educational and operational criteria established by the State of New Jersey.
  • The individual will also be required to pass an initial and annual TCPA and OSHA medical examination and must be able to perform the essential functions and meet the physical requirements for Operator-Maintenance Mechanic II. 

Scope of Responsibilities

  • Operator-Maintenance Mechanic II responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
    • Perform job tasks, activities, and responsibilities of the Systems Operator and OperatorMaintenance Mechanic I.
    • Perform and/or assist with repairs to, and the maintenance of, equipment and facilities, such as chemical pump cleaning, piping repairs and modifications, cleaning and painting of equipment and structures, machinery lubrication, pump adjustment, equipment analysis and data collection, vibration, temperature, and electrical readings, and analytical water testing equipment.
    • Assist in all phases of production facilities’ operation, as required.
    • The Operator-Maintenance Mechanic II may be assigned to work all or a portion of scheduled hours at any production facility.

Experience/Education

  • Must possess and maintain a valid New Jersey Drivers’ License. 

Advancement

  • The Operator-Maintenance Mechanic II may advance to System Operator when a vacancy is posted and provided the individual meets the qualifications and requirements for System Operator.

Operational Schedule

  • Employees in the System Operator, and Operator-Maintenance Mechanic II classifications shall work rotating shifts of twelve (12) hours, and work in each eight (8) week period four (4) weeks of thirty-six (36) hours and four (4) weeks of forty-eight (48) hours according to posted schedules at various work locations.
  • Shift hours will be 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Notification Requirements

  • In cases of an emergency or unexpected vacancy, the Operator-Maintenance Mechanic II’s schedule may be changed with 8 hours’ notice.
  • In all other instances, the Operator-Maintenance Mechanic II’s schedule may be changed with 30 days’ notice
