Primary Role
- Responsible for installing and repairing of service lines, water mains and hydrants.
- May operate heavy machinery.
Job Responsibilities
- Fix and maintain water meters
- Install or remove meters
- Flush fire hydrants
- Inspect valves
- Investigate water leaks
- Help repair main water breaks
Service Orders
- Turn water service on or off
- Handle maintenance requests
- Perform utility locates (mark underground lines before digging)
Maintenance & Records
- Keep accurate maintenance records
- Maintain equipment and tools
- Work with contractors when needed
Customer Service
- Respond to customer questions or complaints
- Provide meter readings for billing
Equipment & Work Environment
You will:
- Operate trucks, tools, and equipment
- Work outside in all weather
- Lift 50–100 pounds occasionally
- Work in confined spaces (manholes, utility pits)
Knowledge/Skills
- Must follow safety procedures
- Must comply with Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) regulations
- After 1 year, you will be on-call every 8–10 weeks for emergency work (1 week at a time)
Experience/Education
- A minimum of a high school diploma or GED
- Water and/or wastewater certification(s) a plus
Travel Requirements
- Local travel within service territory
- Valid state driver's license required
