Job Information
This position is a union position with Illinois American Water and the starting pay rate is $30.52 per hour.
This position may be eligible for annual incentive pay and contracted increases as determined by the collective bargaining agreement, and you will have the opportunity for continued salary growth. The regular hours of work each day will be consecutive except that they may be interrupted by lunch period. Work hours for the Operation Technician are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm Monday through Friday. The Operations Technician will be included in and required to perform Call Out duties as described in the current AFSCME 1479 contract. Emergencies and extenuating circumstances may require temporary schedule changes.
Primary Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for the task necessary to maintain and ensure reliable operation of wastewater treatment facilities and lift stations. Maintenance tasks will be highly technical, including work on pumps, chemical feed systems, and controls. The successful candidate will be given tasks that require electrical, mechanical and wastewater facilities knowledge in addition to operations of heavy equipment including a forklift, front loader, dump truck and any other duties as assigned by management.
Key Accountabilities
- Duties will include having a strong knowledge of safety and operations policies and procedures.
- Lift Station Inspections and maintenance.
- Wastewater Treatment Plant inspections, laboratory and sample duties.
- Solids handling, sludge removal, decanting and other tasks as necessary for the wastewater system.
- Unloading chemical and other plant deliveries.
- Having a strong working knowledge of our system of records.
- Routine regulatory and process sampling and laboratory testing.
- Might include but not limited to Biosolids processing, dewatering, and landfill disposal.
- Knowledge and understanding of regulatory permit requirement.
Knowledge/Skills
- Strong work ethics, time management, written and oral communication skills, organizational and team leadership skills.
- Independent decision making and acceptance of accountability for related actions ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Good mechanical skills.
- Position requires the ability to lift 75lbs.
- Computer literacy required.
Experience/Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 0-2 years minimum in water and wastewater industry.
Certifications/Licenses
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Illinois IEPA Wastewater Class 4 after 1 year, Class 3 after 2 years, Class 2 after 4 years and Class 1 after 6 years of hire or transfer.
