Job Title:  Field Services Representative

Job Description: 

Primary Role

To promptly and efficiently perform customer service orders received for residential, commercial, industrial, and municipal customers.

Key Accountabilities

  • Turns mainline valve to close or open waterflow through pipeline.
  • Disconnects water pipe and connects water meter to outlet and inlet pipe unions, using wrench. 
  • Examines pipes to detect leaks and informs consumer to close faucets.
  • Records meter readings which may include use of computerized meter reading equipment. Installs and repairs water system pipes and accessories, using handtools to loosen and tighten pipe connections to prevent leaks in confined areas. 
  • Investigates consumer complaints of high usage or no-water. 
  • Inspects meters, valves, and pipes to detect defects, such as leaks or malfunctioning meters using testing equipment.
  • Walks and drives vehicle over work area between customer orders.
  • Completes acceptable number of orders per day as established by the company.
  • Follows established safety guidelines and procedures. Returns meters to operations center for testing, repairs, disposal etc. 
  • Communicates with customers on site and other employees to satisfy customer requests or inquiries.
  • Performs collecting functions for water and sewer, including the receipt of monies and maintenance of a payment record ledger.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, rules, looking up information in reference sources, etc.
  • Ability to write simple sentences using proper punctuation, spelling, and employing adjectives and adverbs.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Write legible, speak clearly and distinctly with appropriate pauses, emphasis and correct pronunciation.
  • Must be able to communicate using two-way radio and other communication equipment.
  • Requires mathematical development sufficient to be able to: Add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • To be able to perform the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to I00 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Experience/Education

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Unrestricted WV Driver's License and acceptable driving record

Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works in confined spaces such as large meter vaults. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, ambient temperature extreme
    both hot and cold. The employee is potentially exposed to poison ivy, oak, sumac, insects, etc. potential hazards are driving, working in. traffic, dogs, snakes, etc. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; occasionally the noise level in the work environment is sometimes very loud and requires hearing protection.
