Hopewell VA American Water is currently seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to perform maintenance activities in a timely manner in accordance with all enviormental and health and safety pracitces.

 

Primary Role

Works under the direction of the Production Supervisors and under the direction of the Manager of Operations to perform maintenance activities in a timely manner, in accordance with all environmental and health and safety practices and within the department’s budget. In charge of direct supervision of the maintenance team, key responsibilities include, spares parts and consumables management, prioritizing, coordination and direction of preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance and repair activities, identifying and managing subcontractors to ensure contract compliance. Ensures compliance with equipment O&M manuals and manufacturer recommendations, promptly update of record drawings after any modification is implemented and performance of regular inspection and calibration activities.

Key Accountabilities

  • Coordinate all maintenance activities so they are performed in a timely manner and in accordance with the department’s budget including all internal and external maintenance-related activities such as materials, equipment, services, vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, labor and health and safety. Accountable for ongoing budget management and compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities including materials, equipment, services, vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, labor and health and safety. Manage budget and comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Direct supervision of the maintenance team (mechanical, electrical and instrumentation). Interacts with subordinates, supervisors, vendors, subcontractors and client regarding repair and maintenance activities and contract compliance topics. Prioritization, coordination and direction of preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance and repair activities and performance of regular inspection and calibration activities.
  • Coordinate repair, preventive and corrective maintenance activities, contract compliance, regular inspection and calibration activities with staff, vendors, subcontractors and client.
  • Ensures compliance with equipment O&M manuals and manufacturer recommendations, promptly update of record drawings after any modification is implemented.

Key Accountabilities Cont'd

  • Spares parts and consumables management; Accountable for ensuring work orders are entered, assigned, and closed promptly and for ensuring adequate levels of spares and consumables are maintained at all times.
  • In conjunction with the Operations Manager, develops objectives and reports to meet internal and external requirements as well as improve operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate training activities as they may be required for all maintenance employees including required training. Accountable for ensuring all employees and subcontractors have valid authorization and access.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Understanding of water and waste water treatment processes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, organizational and budget management capabilities. Proficient using Microsoft applications and various software packages.

Experience/Education

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • BA/BS preferred but not required
  • Must have great computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite)
  • At least 10 years of increasingly responsible experience in commercial, industrial or water treatment industry preferred
  • Experience with 3 phase high voltage motor controls, electrical construction, instrumentation, computer controls, SCADA, CMMS, PLC’s, VFD’s, ladder logic, and power distribution maintenance preferred
  • Experience with various types and sizes of motors and pumps preferred

Certifications/Licenses

  • Valid driver license with ability to successfully pass driving history check.
  • Virginia Class 4 or higher Wastewater license preferred but not required.

Work Environment

  • Office and outside environment. Will be working is adverse weather conditions such as excessive heat, dust and dirt.
  • During the course of their duties the Maintenance Supervisor will be exposed to varying climatic conditions, potential exposure to trace amounts of treatment chemicals, and water. In the course of supervising the maintenance staff, the Maintenance Supervisor will be required to travel, visit and inspect all necessary facilities which may entail traversing uneven or difficult terrain, working at heights and in confined spaces.

  • The duties of this position will require the ability to walk, observe, talk, listen and operate computers, computerized equipment and telephones. Work hours are irregular and may require on-site supervision outside of normal working hours including evening and weekends.
