Job Title:  GIS Intern

Job Description: 

Primary Role

This Intern experience will introduce you to exciting career opportunities in the water and wastewater field. The successful candidate will work as a GIS Intern with a team of GIS Technicians to support various types of engineering and construction projects and programs for the company’s water and wastewater systems. They will also learn firsthand how water utilities support communities and provide resiliency and sustainability.

Key Accountabilities

Typical duties are diverse and designed around the education and experience level of the student. Assignments may include:

  • Utilizing ArcGIS Pro to create and maintain spatial and attribute data following standard operating procedures and GIS editing best practices.
  • Ability to learn and understand the basics of water and wastewater network structures and apply learned knowledge when creating and maintaining American Water GIS data.
  • Preparing presentation materials and map displays using PowerPoint and GIS
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining files, records, drawings, reports, maps, charts, budgets, and other data related to GIS and construction projects.
  • Assist GIS Team in implementing and developing new applications to improve efficiency.

Experience/Education

  • Currently enrolled in a Undergraduate or Technical degree program studying Environmental Science, Geography, or GIS.
