Position Information
Salary Range: $61,050- $90,250/annually
The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. This position is eligible for annual incentive pay and has the opportunity for continued salary growth. If you are hired at American Water your base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as market, geography, skills, education and/or experience. Primary Role
American Water is seeking a detail-oriented, compliance driven Program Manager to join our Water Quality & Environmental Compliance team in East St Louis, IL. In this role, you will supervise the Bac-T lab, review data, conduct monthly regulatory and compliance reporting, as well as handle customer inquiries.
The Water Quality & Environmental Compliance Program Manager is responsible for organizing advanced functions and activities related to environmental management and water quality for assigned facilities. This role is responsible for maintaining all applicable lab certifications, accreditations, or approvals to conduct compliance and process quality control work. You will assist in resolving treatment issues. Investigates water quality complaints and determines course of action needed.
Key Accountabilities
- Manage monitoring and reporting programs to ensure compliance with federal and state water quality and environmental regulations and company standards for assigned facilities.
- Conduct advanced sampling and/or analysis and special projects. (15%)
- Obtain, prepare, file and maintain all regulatory reports and records.
- Participate in internal and external audits and represent American Water with regulators and customers.
- Identify potential issues and problems and initiate responsive actions and mitigate environmental violations (10%)
- Supervise, monitor, and calibrate analyzers/equipment, etc. to ensure established standards of performance and accuracy are maintained (10%)
- Conduct advanced projects and prepare reports as needed
- Investigate and respond to all water quality complaints or concerns. (40%)
Knowledge/Skills
- Knowledge of federal and state environmental standards and regulations and understanding of current environmental legislation and regulations
- Regulatory knowledge of proper lab analytical testing methods
- Understanding principles of water and/or wastewater treatment and ability to troubleshoot systems
Experience/Education

Bachelors of Science degree

Minimum of five (5) years experience in water, wastewater, and laboratory operations
Travel Requirements
- Local travel within service territory
Work Schedule
- Full-time, on-site
- Monday-Friday, 7am-3:30pm
- On-call responsibility as needed
