Job Information
Systems Operator rate of pay is $46.14 per hour.
This position may be eligible for annual incentive pay and contracted increases as determined by the collective bargaining agreement, and you will have the opportunity for continued salary growth.

Rotating work schedule-12 hour shifts
Key Accountabilities
- Operate the water treatment facility and related appurtenances including, but not limited to, chemical feeders, pumps, purification units, and standby generation and residual processing equipment, to insure the safe, reliable production and delivery of the highest quality water.
- Review, monitor, and adjust hydraulic and chemical processes to achieve and maintain established water quality standards and system requirements.
- Operate and adjust computer control systems to insure the integrity of water treatment facility, transmission and distribution systems, and remote hydraulic and chemical systems.
- Prioritize and coordinate tasks and/or activities required for the efficient, safe, and reliable operation of water treatment facility and related appurtenances
- Respond to inquiries accurately and professionally, and when necessary, involve the appropriate individuals to resolve customer and company-related issues and to achieve the highest level of customer service in all areas of assigned responsibility.
- Receive chemicals and materials in accord with established company, state, and/or federal safety standards and/or procedures.
- Prepare and maintain accurate plant and systems records and reports.
- Maintain the appearance of water treatment facility and grounds in accord with Company standards.
- Perform and/or assist with repairs to Company equipment and/or facilities.
- Laboratory testing conducted hourly to confirm accuracy of process control.
- Water sampling for bacteriological, DBP, VOC, SOC, nutrient and metal analysis.
- Collect water samples, as directed, in accord with established water quality procedures.
- Perform water treatment tests and evaluate water samples, as directed, to ensure water quality is within established parameters, and, if necessary, adjust treatment processes to insure the integrity of the water supply.
Knowledge/Skills
- Able to speak, read, write and understand the English Language.
- Proficient in the use of a computer, a computer mouse and a calculator.
- Able to perform basic mathematical and statistical calculations (e.g., addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and averaging) as well as be able to solve for a single unknown.
- Customer Service focused.
- The Systems Operator must possess a working knowledge of all facets of water treatment operations including hydraulic, chemical and electrical equipment and processes, in addition to a thorough understanding of the distribution system network including, but not limited to, gradients, capacities, interconnections, mapping, service territory and facility locations, to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the water treatment facility and related appurtenances.
Experience/Education
- High School diploma or G.E.D.
- Capable of operating Company equipment and vehicles necessary for the completion of assigned responsibilities.
Certifications/Licenses
- The Systems Operator must be capable of operating equipment and vehicles necessary for the completion of assignments and must possess and maintain a valid New Jersey Drivers’ License.
- The Systems Operator must possess a T-2 or W-2 License and will be required to pass a qualification examination developed by the Company prior to the conclusion of the qualification period.
- The individual will also be required to pass an initial and annual TCPA and OSHA medical examination and must be able to perform the essential functions and meet the physical requirements for Systems Operator.
Work Environment
- Understand and follow Company safety procedures; wear appropriate PPE at all times.
- Adhere to Company dress code.

Must be able to perform the essential functions and meet the physical requirements for the position. Physical requirements include but are not limited to:
- Ability to physically withstand the following for long periods of time: walk, stand, climb stairs and sit in a chair.
- Wear and use an SCBA and a respirator.
- Push, pull or lift up to 60 pounds.
- Operate manual valves via hand cranks, valve wheels, valve keys and levers.
May be assigned to perform responsibilities either individually or in conjunction with other employees.
Maintains professionalism in appearance and demeanor at all times.
