Primary Role
Performs jobs necessary for the care and maintenance of such mechanical equipment, buildings, property, and facilities as are in use at the Missouri-American Water Company St. Louis operations, to include fabrication and construction of such equipment and facilities as may be required in water utility operation.
Key Accountabilities
- Performs machine shop activities: operates a lathe, shaper, milling machine, drill press, etc. Sharpens tools, makes dies, pours and fits bearings, etc.
- Performs welding: acetylene and electric welding, soldering, brazing, and cutting.
- Performs pipe fittings, pipe laying, boiler and heating plant maintenance: performs installation, repair, and care of valves, fittings, and pipe including screwed, sweat, flanged, bell, and spigot, mechanical joints, for both large and small pipe.
- Performs handling of large pipe, cast iron, concrete, steel, or any other material.
- Performs electric wiring and motor care: assembles and repairs electric motors, installs conduit and wiring, traces electrical troubles,
- performs care of relays, remote control, and similar auxiliary control equipment.
- Performs metal working: performs cuttings and welding as used in conjunction with sheet metal work, bending, and fabrication of metal products.
- Performs carpentry and millwright: includes concrete form carpentry and finished carpentry, setting of machinery, alignment of equipment, etc.
- Does all rigging and moving of heavy equipment and machinery.
- Performs equipment and vehicle maintenance: gasoline and diesel engine overhaul and repair, vehicle maintenance, minor air conditioning equipment maintenance and repair.
- Performs instrument and control: installation, maintenance, service, calibration of pneumatic hydraulic, electric controls, and instruments.
Experience/Education
- Must be experienced in two of the eight key accountabilities and demonstrate familiarity with two of the remaining skills as used at the St. Louis County operation.
- H.S. Diploma or GED required.
