Primary Role

Responsible for the preparation of property, sales and use tax, and/or other returns related to new business, highly sensitive, complex or specialized returns. Timely and accurate communication of true-ups. Assist with acquisition and divestiture projects and requests. In addition, responsible for the researching of assigned property or sales and use tax issues/topics. Full or preliminary review and approval of account reconciliations, Sabrix reviews, journal entries, disbursements and/or returns. Completion of the monthly recurring accruals. Preparation and presentation of product code training and/or webinars. Mentor other staff for the development and training necessary to backup this position. Other tasks as assigned by management.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensures accurate and timely completion of all assigned highly sensitive, complex, specialized and/or other assigned returns, including related disbursements.
  • Perform assigned account reconciliations.
  • Complete timely and accurate true-ups.
  • Perform timely and adequate communication of true-ups to Accounting & Reporting, Business Partners and other impacted departments and/or areas of the company.
  • Identify and communicate potential exposure, penalties or interest prior to being recorded. Identify and implement departmental process improvements, initiatives/projects, other miscellaneous activities.
  • Assist with acquisition and divestiture projects and requests. Provide research support for potential tax issues/topics/risks.
  • Review and approve account reconciliations completed by lower levels and Sabrix invoice/purchase order reviews.
  • Complete preliminary review of journal entries, disbursements and/or returns completed by lower levels.
  • Guide, train, mentor other staff for the development and training necessary to fill this position.
  • Available as initial level of support for other staff (ie. questions on exemption certificates, compliance, Sabrix reviews, account recs). Proactively participate in company sponsored events and activities.
  • Prepare and present departmental related training.
  • Proactively seek self development by assisting Supervisor by contributing in policy/practice development or changes, implementing changes and maintaining a positive and team oriented environment.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Minimum Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of GAAP, taxation regulations, regulatory practices, and company policies. Knowledge sufficient to perform at the experienced professional level.
  • Experience in working with and developing Alteryx Workflows is a plus as well as was experience working with VERTEX returns.
  • Experience with SAP, or other ERP software preferred. Prior experience in the utility, shared service industry or multi- company corporation desired.

Experience/Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in a business related field required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years general tax experience required.
  • Prior experience in a multi-subsidiary environment or utility/regulated industry desired.
