Salary Range: $59,280 - $99,060

 

The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. This position is eligible for annual incentive pay and has the opportunity for continued salary growth. If you are hired at American Water your base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as market, geography, skills, education and/or experience. Primary Role

 

The Senior Hydrogeologist is responsible for collecting, processing and interpreting hydrogeological data, executing design, and providing technical support during the delivery of moderately complex medium to large-size capital investment projects addressing water and wastewater resource facilities. Serves as technical support in hydrology, which is of critical importance to the planning and delivery of water supply and wastewater disposal system assets and Company operations. Support development of technical standards, standard specifications, policies and procedures, and approved product/vendor lists.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage and conduct hydrogeological and geochemistry assessments and data analysis for development of new and/or improved groundwater supply and wastewater disposal facilities to meet increasing and/or changing demands and regulatory requirements.
  • This includes supporting well and aquifer testing programs throughout the AW footprint to ensure consistent application of hydrogeologic principles and proven procedures.
  • Prepare or manage via third party consulting firms the technical, bidding and contractual documents associated with delivery of assigned capital investment projects related to groundwater resources.
  • Deliver scope and quality of work to achieve the intent of all design concepts and Company standards for capacity, performance, reliability, safety and regulatory compliance. Serve as technical support during planning, construction, commissioning and initial operation of assets.
  • Develop and/or utilize existing computerized mathematical modeling programs to assess aquifer yields and groundwater flow and transport patterns to ensure safe and adequate water supplies and/or effluent disposal capacities.
  • Execute or support groundwater investigations for new groundwater sources of supply, existing well performance assessment, aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) systems, and discharge to groundwater systems.
  • Prepare and/or review hydrogeologic reports and design documents (drawings and specifications) for groundwater supply or effluent disposal facilities.
  • Participate in special assignments including professional conferences, business development functions, technology research and other matters of strategic interest to Company.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Strong knowledge of geology and hydrogeology; specific to potable water aquifers and wells.
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal drinking water regulations
  • General knowledge of Engineering, Project Management and construction management practices related to planning, design, construction and operations for groundwater resource management facilities.  
  • Working knowledge of regulatory developments, new technology and current trends in water quality, water treatment, and other related water resource management disciplines.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills (e.g., analytical, technical, problem solving, attention to detail).
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills (e.g., fluency in report writing and presentations).
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively problem solve routine and non-routine issues, developing possible solutions to problems and challenges.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations which pertain to the field of water resources.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Experience/Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology, hydrogeology, soil science, geological engineering, or related field.
  • 4+ years’ experience in geology or hydrogeology; consideration will be given for advanced degrees in lieu of minimum years of experience.

Certifications/Licenses

  • Professional Licensure (PG, CPSS, and/or PE) required
  • Valid Driver’s License

Work Environment

In addition to a regular office environment, will occasionally have to work in construction environments, near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. May include an environment where possible exposure to physical hazards, weather extremes, wet and/or humid conditions, and chemicals.

Travel Requirements

Up to 35%, as required.
