Position Information

$68,640 - $114,660

 

The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. This position is eligible for annual incentive pay and has the opportunity for continued salary growth. If you are hired at American Water your base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as market, geography, skills, education and/or experience. Primary Role

This role supports the finance function by providing support for standardized financial planning, reporting and analysis for the operating companies. These initiatives focus on providing consistency in process and on delivering high-quality, actionable insights to the Executive, Senior, and State Leadership Teams supporting data driven decision-making. In addition, this role will help support sustainable improvements in Operating and Maintenance (O&M) cost management by providing value-driven analysis and advancing actionable O&M reporting.  This role will also assist in partnering with functional leaders with driving consistency in financial planning for center-led activities.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead collaboration with the business to understand key business drivers & operational metrics and deliver effective analysis on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
  • Participate in budgeting & reforecasting processes.  Collaborate with operational and financial business partners to develop budget assumptions and pertinent supporting schedules
  • Support regulatory filings and data requests with financial data and analysis
  • Support state standard and ad hoc reporting and analysis, sharing ad-hoc analysis with other states to advance best practice development.
  • Develop performance metrics that can be cascaded from the consolidated level to States, and down to local Districts to measure financial performance accurately and reliably with the ability to consolidate information at different enterprise levels.
  • Partner and liaise with internal colleagues and functions to collect performance metric data required for accurate and timely reporting.
  • Publish and present reports at different enterprise levels that contain performance metric results to provide Service Company, State, and local District leadership with visibility into financial performance.
  • Analyze performance metrics to gain insight into key drivers of financial performance at the Consolidated, State, and local District levels.
  • Benchmark performance metrics to gain a sense for financial performance relative to enterprise peers and overall industry standards.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Ability to recommend and implement process improvements, work independently, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Sound knowledge of utility/business processes.
  • Thorough understanding of, and ability to apply, key principles of P&L management, marketing, pricing, offer strategy, financial analysis, and technology principles.
  • Proficiency in the development of metrics, KPIs and overall business intelligence architecture.
  • SAP and Hyperion/Oracle experience preferred
  • Advanced MS Excel and PowerPoint Skills
  • Strong understanding of data management, integrity, and controls
  • Strong process, project, and program management skills
  • Strong quantitative skills (e.g., analytical, technical, problem solving)
  • Effective people management skills (e.g., planning, organizing, recruiting, controlling, and leading individual staff and teams)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (e.g., fluency in report writing and presentations)
  • Effective interpersonal skills (e.g., persuasion, negotiation, listening, cooperation, tact, diplomacy, problem solving, internal consulting)
  • Leadership presence (e.g., ability to deal effectively and maintain collaborative relationships with Company senior management and other key stakeholders)

Experience/Education

  • Bachelor's Degree preferably in finance or accounting.
  • Advanced degree or CPA, CMA or CFA preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience with a bachelor’s degree.
  • Regulated utility experience preferred.

Travel Requirements

Up to 10%

  • Professional office environment.
  • Hybrid working schedule, 3 days in office and 2 days remote.
