Primary Role
The Senior, Digital Media Specialist will use strategic digital media expertise to support the pursuit of our business goals and strategies, promote the American Water brand and help educate customers.
Important Information
Posted range is $80,000-95,000
The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. This position is eligible for annual incentive pay and has the opportunity for continued salary growth. If you are hired at American Water your base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as market, geography, skills, education and/or experience. Key Accountabilities
- Master of creative digital content development with strong camera, production and storytelling skills, well-versed in post-production tools and digital publishing, organized and efficient.
- Working with executive, senior, and communications peers, advises on, creates and develops digital media content for digital platforms, including digital signage, external sites, social media, and more.
- Serve as digital media lead for external broadcast events (i.e. press events, external webcasts, etc.), creating graphics and video, and advising on effectively engaging the audience.
- Manage the video creation process, including writing, scheduling, shooting, storyboarding, and editing digital content that tells a compelling story.
- Collaborate with peers to develop and execute companywide external social media content and strategy.
- Seek, create, manage, and maintain digital media vendor relationships, including overseeing existing digital media vendor contracts and contracting videographers to advance digital communications technologies.
- Research and share the latest industry trends, developments, and best practices in digital communications to maximize American Water’s influence and build employee and customer engagement.
- Monitor and measure digital communication plan outcomes and drive for continuous improvement.
Knowledge/Skills

- Demonstrates high-quality and creative video and audio recording capabilities with knowledge of digital video cinematography, lighting, shot framing, audio and similar.
- Proficiency with digital video cameras, lighting techniques, motion graphics and audio recording, as well as the ability to know/use/learn new software in the future.
- Basic photography and photo editing skills.
- Demonstrates leadership ability to guide and counsel planning teams.
- Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, respond quickly to requests and meet multiple deadlines.
- Superior written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Creative abilities that range from desktop design to iPhone/desktop video production, writing and beyond.
- Personal reputation for integrity, ethics and cross-cultural sensitivity.
- Able to take direction and feedback and meet all deadlines.

- Strong working knowledge of multimedia tools and technology as well as design principles.
- Solid experience using Adobe Creative Suite with expertise in Premiere Pro and proficiency in Photoshop, InDesign, and Lightroom.
- Experience with Adobe Illustrator, After Effects and other media/video/animation tools are a plus.
- Agile and able to quickly complete video projects for a rapidly evolving function.
- Knowledge and experience using multimedia technology.
Experience/Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, Film & Media Arts, Digital Media or related field.
- At least 5 years in a videography, multimedia and similar cinematographer role
- Experience working with video, digital content, animation, graphic design for social media, and/or in a corporate media production environment.
- Superior written, oral, and visual communication skills.
- Editorial and production experience in print and electronic media.
- Knowledge and experience using web technology as a communications vehicle and resource.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute videos and/or webcasts.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with a diverse employee population.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with company stakeholders at all levels.
- Demonstrated ability to drive change and strategic initiatives. Familiarity with best practices in change management and supporting communications.
Travel Requirements
- Flexibility and willingness to travel.
Work Environment
- Hybrid work schedule 3 days in the office 2 days offsite.
