Position Details

 

Posted Range: $81,120/annually - $133,380/annually. 

 

The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. This position is eligible for annual incentive pay and has the opportunity for continued salary growth. If you are hired at American Water your base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as market, geography, skills, education and/or experience. Primary Role

The Lead HR Data Analyst plays a critical role in transforming complex HR data into actionable insights that drive strategic workforce decisions. This position is responsible for analyzing and visualizing data from SAP SuccessFactors and other systems to support talent management, organizational development, and enterprise-wide planning. The analyst will design intuitive dashboards and visual tools to communicate trends and findings to stakeholders across all levels of the organization. In addition to data analytics, the role supports workforce planning initiatives by partnering with HR and business leaders to align talent strategies with organizational goals. This includes conducting headcount forecasting, attrition modeling, skills gap analysis, and scenario planning to inform decisions around talent acquisition, internal mobility, and succession planning. The Senior HR Data Analyst also contributes to organizational design efforts and continuous improvement projects, ensuring data integrity and leveraging automation to enhance reporting and planning capabilities.

Key Accountabilities

  • Analyze and interpret HR data from SAP SuccessFactors and other systems to uncover trends, patterns, and actionable insights.
  • Design and develop dashboards, charts, infographics, and other visual tools to communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Translate complex data sets into intuitive visual narratives that support workforce planning, talent management, and organizational development.
  • Apply statistical methods and data science techniques to support predictive modeling and scenario analysis.
  • Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and consistency across all reporting and visualization outputs.
  • Continuously explore opportunities to automate reporting processes, improve data workflows, and enhance visualization capabilities.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to prioritize business analytics needs and deliver tailored solutions.
  • Stay current on emerging data trends, tools, and best practices in HR analytics.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost savings, and innovative uses of HR data.
  • Partner with business leaders and HR Business Partners to understand talent needs and align workforce plans with business goals.
  • Conduct workforce supply and demand analysis, including headcount forecasting, attrition modeling, and skills gap assessments.
  • Develop and maintain workforce dashboards, reports, and visualizations to monitor trends and support strategic planning.
  • Support organizational design and restructuring efforts with data and planning insights.
  • Facilitate scenario planning and workforce modeling to evaluate future talent needs under various business conditions.
  • Provide guidance on talent acquisition, internal mobility, and succession planning strategies based on workforce insights.
  • Lead or support HR projects related to workforce optimization, automation, and process improvement.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Proficient in Business Intelligence (BI) and data visualization tools, including Power BI and Amazon QuickSight, with hands-on experience designing interactive dashboards and reports.
  • Advanced analytical capabilities with a strong foundation in data collection, organization, and interpretation, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Skilled in identifying data trends, patterns, and correlations, and translating findings into actionable insights.
  • Comfortable working with large datasets, performing complex data manipulation and statistical analysis.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate data from multiple perspectives and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Proficiency in workforce analytics tools tools/dashboards to support headcount forecasting, attrition modeling, and scenario planning
  • Experience with Excel and statistical tools for modeling workforce supply and demand, attrition trends, and skills gap analysis.
  • Experience using tools to support organizational design, restructuring, and workforce modeling.
  • Knowledge of data integrity practices, data validation techniques, and governance frameworks to ensure consistency and reliability in workforce data.

Experience/Education

  • 5+ years of experience in data analysis, preferably in an HR or people analytics environment.
  • Proficiency with SAP SuccessFactors and experience extracting and analyzing HRIS data.
  • Solid understanding of statistical analysis, data modeling, and data storytelling.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex data in a clear and engaging manner.
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Business Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field.
