The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. This position is eligible for annual incentive pay and has the opportunity for continued salary growth. If you are hired at American Water your base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as market, geography, skills, education and/or experience. Primary Role
As part of the AW2030 program, the Data Analytics Lead is responsible for managing reporting business requirements, determining how current data products fit into the future AW2030 vision, and eventually overseeing the development of dashboards, reports, and visualizations that deliver actionable insights across core domains (e.g., customer, asset, finance, HR, and supply chain). This role ensures reporting is accurate, consistent, and aligned with enterprise standards to support operational excellence and regulatory compliance. Initially focused on consolidating a current state report inventory, rationalizing redundant reporting, refining the data analytics approach, developing an analytics intake and prioritization framework, and defining the vision for future analytics platforms, this position is designed to adapt as the organization’s operating model matures through the AW2030 Program.

Key Accountabilities
- Consolidate an enterprise-wide inventory of current state reports, documenting usage, value, and dependencies.
- Assess and rationalize reports to reduce duplication, inefficiency, and reporting risk.
- Develop and maintain an analytics intake and prioritization framework to align reporting and analytics requests with enterprise goals.
- Gather and document business requirements for new reporting and analytics needs.
- Assess analytics platforms and align on solutions to be delivered as part of the broader AW2030 roadmap.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance dashboards, reports, and visualizations to provide actionable insights.
- Collaborate with regulatory, compliance, and security teams to ensure adherence to policies.
- Collaborate with Data Stewards, Data Governance, and IT to ensure use of standardized data definitions and trusted sources.
- Contribute to the development of enterprise KPIs, reporting standards, and metadata documentation.
- Provide ad-hoc analyses and support the rollout of self-service analytics capabilities.
- Promote adoption of new reporting and analytics tools across business functions.
- Enhance analytics design and delivery approach with business objectives.

Skills - Role Specific:
- Strong proficiency with reporting and visualization tools (e.g., QuickSight, Power BI, Tableau, SAC).
- Experience in querying and validating data using SQL or comparable tools.
- Knowledge of data modeling concepts and relational databases.
- Working knowledge of enterprise systems used in utilities (e.g., SAP, GIS) and their related reporting structures.
- Ability to evaluate existing reports for redundancy, value, and alignment with standards.
- Experience designing frameworks for intake, prioritization, or portfolio management of analytics.
Self-Management:
- Attention to detail and accuracy in analysis.
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Strong organizational skills to manage inventories, frameworks, and analytics requests.

Experience/Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or related field.
- Additional certification in Data Analytics / Visualization Tools (e.g., QuickSight, PowerBI, Tableau, SAC) or Data Management (e.g., Certified Data Management Professional – CDMP).
- Minimum 5-10 years of progressively responsible experience in data management, IT, reporting & innovation or a related field.
- Demonstrated success developing reports, dashboards, or analytics.
- Proven ability to work with stakeholders to capture requirements and translate them into reporting solutions.
- Experience collaborating across business and technical teams to resolve issues.
- Exposure to multi-domain environments and cross-functional projects.
- Preference: Familiarity with analytics platforms, preferably in a regulated industry such as utilities, energy, or infrastructure.Proven ability to work with stakeholders to capture requirements and translate them into reporting solutions.

At the program’s completion, we expect your placement in a role at a similar or higher level than your current role.
