Short Description
$59,280 - $99,060
The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. This position is eligible for annual incentive pay and has the opportunity for continued salary growth. If you are hired at American Water your base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as market, geography, skills, education and/or experience. Primary Role
Support the creation, completion and analysis of standard and moderately complex financial reports and financialinformation to ensure the overall analysis supports the financial business objective of the company. Supportmanagement in shaping, driving and influencing business performance and continuous improvement; supportvalue creation from financial analysis aligned with business goals. Support the Rates and Regulatory Departmentand/or Regulatory Operations related to rate cases and filings with special emphasis on revenue modelling andanalysis, and supporting detailed work schedules.
Key Accountabilities
- Research, monitor and track financial compliance & reporting requirements to further develop a complete andfull understanding and adherence of filing deadlines and submission requirements; responds to internal andexternal colleagues regarding questions, verifications and follow-up.
- Support the development of integrated revenue analyses, projections, reports, cost allocations andpresentations.
- Create and analyzes moderately complex monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and ensure financialinformation has been recorded accurately and completely.
- Review financial publications and journals to learn to identify trends and developments in competitiveenvironments; assist in the development & delivery of financial presentations as requested.
- Perform moderately complex financial forecasting, financial modeling and trend analysis.
- Partner and liaise with internal and external colleges and functions to collect the individual pieces of data andinformation required by required filings and/or reports.
- Complete special financial studies, e.g. cost of service studies, return on equity, capital structure, depreciation,service company costs and lead/lag.
- Analyze and assess business performance; identify options to deliver value.
- Shape, drive and influence planning and reporting for management team.
- Assist in ensuring accuracy of business plans, forecasts and variance analysis.
- Support development of team members; provide advice and expertise on a proactive basis to team members.
- Support and/or lead the analysis of revenues (trends, modelling, and other analytics.
- Support preparation of Rate Case filings, specific to revenues.
Knowledge/Skills
- Economic principles relating to utility rates and cost analysis.
- Fundamental accounting concepts and understanding of analytical concepts for financial analysis as well as USGAAP accounting practices.
- Methodologies and practices of data collection, research methodologies and of statistical and cost analysis.
- Business report writing, preparation and delivery of presentations including oral testimony.
- Audit, review and analyze business and financial records.
- Execution and analysis using company business technologies and computer simulation programs.
- Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) with particular expertise in Microsoft Excel (advanced).
- Must have the ability to review data and make appropriate decisions regarding public utility operations and toproject future costs.
- Knowledge/Experience of ERP and CIS Systems (preferable integrated platform).
- Knowledge and experience in the rate case process (have been directly involved in the process) providingsupport and/or detailed schedules/analysis.
Experience/Education
- Five to seven years of pertinent financial experience. water utility industry a plus.
- Bachelor's degree(Required) in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Business or a closely related field or anequivalent combination of education and experience.
Other
This is a higher intermediate and growing level of the job family where employees are assigned responsibility for performing moderately complex work solving a wider range of standard and nonstandard problems and to continue to build their skills in gathering and analyzing data concerning public utilities, and in reviewing utility applications. In this role they work under moderate to minimal supervision and may independently handle presentations at public meetings, preparing exhibits and testimony, and may be called upon to provide expert testimony in routine cases, or to research a portion of a case and testify to the findings.
