Compensation Data
Base Salary Range: $124,800 - $198,000
The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. This position is eligible for annual incentive pay and has the opportunity for continued salary growth. If you are hired at American Water your base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as market, geography, skills, education and/or experience. At American Water, we are committed to pay equity.

Primary Role
This position is remote and can be home officed anywhere in the United States.
This role is responsible for identifying, communicating, and advancing key regulatory initiatives to support the Company’s strategic regulatory objectives. It involves close collaboration with state teams and regulatory stakeholders to advocate favorable outcomes, monitor regulatory developments, and shape effective strategies.
- Facilitate and promote regular interactions between Company representatives and regulatory stakeholders.
- Identify and advance critical regulatory initiatives that support the Company’s objectives.
- Advocate for favorable regulatory outcomes through strategic engagement and messaging.
- Collaborate with state teams to develop and execute initiative-focused communications with regulatory stakeholders.
- Participate in and assess the effectiveness of regulatory communications and strategies.
- Support the development and maintenance of strong relationships with key individuals in regulatory agencies and trade organizations to position the Company for positive interaction with these organizations.
- Track and evaluate regulatory outcomes from jurisdictions the Company operates in that may impact the Company.
- Develop responsive strategies to address regulatory challenges and opportunities
- Educate state regulatory leaders on emerging regulatory trends and collaborate on state-specific strategies.
- Work cross-functionally to ensure alignment and consistency in regulatory messaging and initiatives.
- Promote effective communications of key regulatory initiatives at industry conferences and forums.
- Represent the Company in external meetings, conferences, and stakeholder engagements as needed.
- Exercise full latitude for independent judgment in a dynamic and evolving regulatory environment.
- Mentor and guide less experienced colleagues in regulatory strategy and stakeholder engagement.
- Lead and manage projects, facilitate meetings, and prepare exhibits and testimony to support regulatory initiatives.
Key Accountabilities
- Supports the development of relationships with key regulatory stakeholders to facilitate communication of objectives important to the Company.
- Conducts detailed regulatory analysis of critical regulatory state issues.
- Prepares written and oral communications strategies to advance regulatory initiatives.
- Prepares and reviews presentations to consistently articulate company initiatives and goals.
- Proactively educates key regulatory leaders on regulatory challenges and collaborates with state teams in developing strategic responses.
- Provide/Present recommendations and/or conclusions to Executive Management, ELT and other outside stakeholders based on the analyses.
- Own the end-to-end preparation and development of the communications on issues critical to advancing American Water’s regulatory initiatives.
- Provides technical solutions and analysis on national issues.
- Prepares communications that respond to requests from commissions or comply with regulatory needs resulting from previous orders.
- Provides research and comparative analyses of complex public utility issues, trends and best practices from jurisdictions across the country.
- Ensures regulatory communications are appropriately retained and categorized on the regulatory SharePoint site.
- Identifies and leads activities to drive continuous process improvements.
- Lead training initiatives as assigned for Regulatory Services teams and State Regulatory Leaders (e.g.: modelling, planning, and any other regulatory related areas)

Experience/Education
- Bachelor's degree in, finance, economics, accounting, business or a closely related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Seasoned professional with a minimum of 6 years prior experience in the utility industry and/or shared service or multi-company corporation
Work Environment
- Professional remote office environment
