The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. This position is eligible for annual incentive pay and has the opportunity for continued salary growth. If you are hired at American Water your base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as market, geography, skills, education and/or experience. Primary Role
Responsible for leading all subsidiary financing activities, including regulated and non-regulated inter-company financing, legal entity capital structure, as well as short- and long-term cash forecasting. Lead support to Sr Treasury Leadership for all subsidiary public and private tax exempt debt offerings and redemptions and re-financings, including analysis, negotiation, documentation and settlement.
Key Accountabilities
- Manage daily liquidity positioning process as well as short-term debt issuances with various investment banks.
- Funding of daily cash needs through issuance of commercial paper and bank revolver drawdowns.
- Prepares capital structure analysis for all regulated subsidiaries including forecasts of changes in debt and equity financing.
- Prepares and analyzes recommendations for regulated subsidiary equity infusions, credit lines and new long term loans.
- Manages all documents related to regulated subsidiary financing, including inter-company notes and credit agreements.
- Complies and oversees quarterly and annual debt covenant compliance work for all debt across the American Water system.
- Manage forecasting and analysis including interest expense and cash flow.
- Manages the entire process to issue new tax-exempt debt and refinance existing tax exempt debt according to the American Water Financing Policy and Regulated Utility Financing Practice from the Business planning process up to the close of the financing. This includes support of negotiations with investment bankers, regulators and other government agencies who are responsible for approving the financing.
- Duties also include completing applications, negotiating interest rates and fees with perspective underwriters, reviewing and developing schedules and bond documents.
- Provide treasury support for all subsidiary states regulatory proceedings including rate case and financing petitions, and all activities to support efficient and effective regulatory compliance in the states.
- Assists with preparation of expert witness testimony as needed with the regulatory process.
- Supervise the Senior Treasury Manager; set work expectations, review work, coach, train and mentor to ensure proper technical understanding of department's goals, methodology and approach.
- Mentor the Senior Treasury Manager in career development, project assignments, training opportunities and understanding of American Water as a business Manage 10Q and 10k debt reporting including interest rate swap, PPV, and FMV analysis.
- Responsible for preparation and distribution of quarterly and annual officers certificates and related financial statements to bond holders and investment and commercial bankers.
- Manage Treasury Workstation as well as Process Improvements.
Knowledge/Skills
- Knowledge of debt financing to include redemption and refinancing analytics, bonds, convertible bonds, preferred stock, and interest rate risk management.
- Knowledge of Tax Exempt debt, industrial development bonds and other state subsidized financing products.
- Full understanding of the regulated utility capitalization model and the regulatory approval process for long-term financing.
Experience/Education
- Bachelor's Degree in finance or accounting.
- Masters in Business Administration (MBA) preferred.
- At least 15 years finance, including treasury and rates roles.
- Management experience required.
