Salary Range: 119,430 - $137,380

 

The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. This position is eligible for annual incentive pay and has the opportunity for continued salary growth. Primary Role

The Manager of Cybersecurity Monitoring is responsible for leading the organization’s Security Operations Center (SOC) and managing a team of Level 1 and Level 2 Cybersecurity Analysts. This individual plays a dual role: overseeing day-to-day operations while also performing hands-on monitoring, detection, and incident response activities. The manager will ensure comprehensive coverage of cyber threats across both IT and Operational Technology (OT) environments, supporting the protection of critical infrastructure, sensitive data, and regulatory compliance obligations.

Key Accountabilities

  • Operational Oversight: Ability to manage daily SOC operations, ensuring consistent coverage, workload balance, and SLA adherence.
  • Mentorship and Development: Experienced in coaching junior employees at American Water to improve analytical capabilities and procedural discipline.
  • Escalation Management: Skilled in triaging and prioritizing incidents and making decisions under pressure.
  • Documentation upkeep.
  • Performance Management: Establishing and tracking performance metrics (KPIs/SLAs) for SOC effectiveness.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Operational Leadership, Water Utility Experience, Project involvement, Security Operations, Change Management Processes.
  • Strong knowledge of digital technologies and applicability for the water and wastewater industries.
  • In-depth knowledge of SOC operations, incident response, and threat intelligence.
  • Leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong expertise with enterprise-class security tools and platforms (SIEM, SOAR, EDR, IAM, vulnerability management).

Experience/Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; or equivalent professional experience.
  • Appropriate technical certification in specialty area preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in Information Technology operations.
  • Minimum 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Experience in utilities, critical infrastructure, or other highly regulated industries strongly preferred.

Travel Requirements

As necessary, up to 10%.
