$59,280 - $99,060

 

The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. This position is eligible for annual incentive pay and has the opportunity for continued salary growth. Primary Role

Participate in the Accounting Rotation Program (“ARP”), a dynamic two-year program designed for early-career professionals to gain foundational experience in various accounting functions at an investor-owned utility company.  The ARP will typically include some, or all, of the following areas within the Controller’s department, depending on demand: External Financial Reporting, Plant Accounting, Internal Controls SOX Compliance, Financial Business Systems, and General Accounting. Responsibilities will vary depending on the assigned functional group and are outlined below in more detail within Key Accountabilities.  Candidates should be flexible in adapting to changes and have a strong desire to learn. 

Key Accountabilities

Key accountabilities will change depending on the assigned functional area over the two-year program.  These are not an exhaustive list, but rather an overview of potential accountabilities within a given functional area:

 

External Financial Reporting and SOX Compliance

  • Drafts disclosures and compile financial statements for various sections of the Company’s SEC filings (i.e. Form 10-Q and 10-K), ensuring compliance with US GAAP and SEC rules and regulations.  Maintains complete and accurate supporting documentation for disclosures.   
  • Assists with monthly financial consolidation process as part of the accounting period close.
  • Assists in the preparation and review of the Company’s annual and quarterly subsidiary financial statement reports
  • Assists with monitoring the Company’s compliance with SOX activities to ensure key business processes and risks are addressed with an effective internal control environment
  • Collaborates with external/internal auditors to resolve potential control issues

 

Plant Accounting

  • Provides accounting for fixed asset related activity to include asset additions, retirements, depreciation, cost of removal, and salvage.
  • Prepares journal entries and assists in analyzing financial results and variances, ensuring completeness and accuracy of the subsidiary general ledgers.
  • Prepares account reconciliations, including the timely investigation and resolution of discrepancies and reconciling items.
    • Provides reporting support, information and analysis to assist in consolidation and the External Reporting team’s fulfillment of the Company’s quarterly and annual SEC reporting requirements.
    • Assists in the preparation of quarterly and annual subsidiary financial statements and state commission reporting requirements, ensuring compliance with US GAAP, state-specific utility regulation, internal controls and Company policies and practices.
    • Assists the Rates Support team in fulfilling rate case requests and analyses for filings and/or other reporting requirement reports.
    • Interfaces/liaises with the Capital Administration, Financial Analysis and Decision Support, Budgeting and Internal Reporting, Cash/Treasury, Accounts Payable, Call Center Operations and Tax teams, providing information on accounting and reporting matters.
    • Assists with special projects and initiatives to optimize the effectiveness of existing business applications, technologies and systems and to build efficiencies/improvements into current business processes.

Key Accountabilities (Cont.)

Financial Business Systems

  • Provides support and administration to the business function, maintaining our financial system including, SAP ECC, SAP S4 HANA, Powerplan, Alteryx, Hyperion and Blackline,
  • Assists with system testing, documentation and operating procedures and projects (i.e. upgrades, new system implementations)
  • Assists end-user community with technical solutions and support in identifying, resolving and/or advancing issues encountered in business systems
  • Performs setups in the systems to include but not limited to chart of accounts values in the general ledger and maintenance of financial tables. Also, maintain documentation to document related to setups
  • Assists with the development of and delivery of training programs for various financial application users
  • Administers and maintain financial systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance.
  • Provides business and system administration ensuring appropriate master data setup to enable accurate financial postings for system integrations and daily business operations.
  • Responsibilities include analyzing system issues, application data, and business processes, creating solutions, performing testing, identifying opportunities for process improvements, and providing recommendations that align with business objectives and user needs.

 

General and Regulatory Accounting

    • Includes accounting responsibilities for the following business functions: Regulatory, Treasury, Payroll/Benefits, Revenue/Accounts Receivable, Non-Regulated Businesses, Prepaids, Accruals, and more
    • Prepares journal entries and assists in analyzing financial results and variances, ensuring completeness and accuracy of the subsidiary general ledgers.
    • Prepares account reconciliations, including the timely investigation and resolution of discrepancies and reconciling items.
    • Assists with special projects and initiatives to optimize the effectiveness of existing business applications, technologies and systems and to build efficiencies/improvements into current business processes.
    • Work on ad-hoc projects as needed

Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of fundamental accounting/analytical concepts and financial analysis.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); knowledge of advanced Microsoft Excel functionalities (i.e. pivot and look-up tables, etc.) a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical, systemic and problem-solving skills, including the ability to work in teams or effectively work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on initiative, knowledge sharing, team building and decision making.

Experience/Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
