Position Information

Posted Range: $55,700-$78,730 (up to $35.74/hour)

The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. This position is eligible for annual incentive pay and has the opportunity for continued salary growth. Primary Role

Water Operator (Class B) reporting to Illinois American Water's Cairo office.This position works Tuesday through Saturday 7am-3:30pm with Bi-Weekly on call rotation.

Key Accountabilities

  • Performs duties necessary to maintain and ensure the reliable operation of the Cairo Production facility including, but not limited to, chemical feed systems, required process control testing and analysis, filling of day tanks, management of pumping and filter operations including filter washing and any additional filter treatment that may be required.
  • Manages distribution system in regards to pumpage, tank levels, and pressure requirements.
  • Performs routine maintenance and housekeeping.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Responsible for the safe operation of water facilities.
  • Follow all safety rules and operational procedures as established by the Company.
  • Responsible for proper sample collection and related laboratory or field tests.
  • Mathematical aptitude to effectively perform calculations associated with the position.
  • Mechanical aptitude to service, maintain and make minor repairs to a wide variety of machinery and equipment.
  • Comply with all requirements to provide high quality water treatment as established by the company and governmental regulatory and environmental agencies.
  • The ability to learn and use computer programs such as Outlook, Microsoft Office, Waterly (Production Department’s data entry systems), Teams and MapCall.
  • Familiarity with SCADA computer systems for utilities.
  • Must be available for work after business hours and during emergencies.
  • Physical capacity to perform heavy manual labor in all types of weather.
  • Must be reliable, responsible, organized, resourceful and able to think and act promptly all while often working alone.
  • Ability to cooperate/collaborate with other operators and laboratory personnel.
  • Good written and verbal skills.
  • Strong problem solving and prioritizing skills.

Experience/Education

  • 0-2 years of experience in the water industry.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid drivers license with the ability to pass a motor vehicle check.

Certifications/Licenses

  • Illinois Class B Water License required after 2 years in position.
