Position Information

Posted Range: $59,280/annually - $99,060/annually. 

The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. This position is eligible for annual incentive pay and has the opportunity for continued salary growth. If you are hired at American Water your base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as market, geography, skills, education and/or experience. Primary Role

The Specialist, Laboratory QA is responsible for supporting the Quality Assurance function at the Central Laboratory, including the review of analytical data packages, method audit and certification activity.

Key Accountabilities

  • Oversee and enforce quality control methodologies to ensure compliance with standard operating procedures, guidelines and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure data accuracy, reliability and adherence to drinking water methods through the validation process.
  • Perform internal audits, develop and implement corrective actions and investigate nonconforming events.
  • Lead training sessions to promote compliance and quality excellence.
  • Review and approve laboratory certifications, quality control records and laboratory documents.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (e.g., fluency in report writing and presentations).
  • Effective interpersonal skills (e.g., persuasion, negotiation, listening, cooperation, tact, diplomacy, problem solving, internal consulting)
  • Strong project management skills (e.g. planning, organizing, directing, monitoring and reporting on project activities, managing concurrent projects).
  • Sound business acumen and judgment.
  • Effective quantitative and analytical skills; attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of laboratory regulations and requirements, preferably in drinking water. 

Experience/Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related field. Equivalent role-related work experience in lieu of a degree may be considered. 
  • 3+ years’ experience with a bachelor’s degree or 9+ years’ experience without a bachelor’s degree in quality assurance or relevant experience in the water industry or environmental laboratory

Up to 5%, as required
