$81,120.00 - $133,380.00 annually
The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. This position is eligible for annual incentive pay and has the opportunity for continued salary growth. If you are hired at American Water your base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as market, geography, skills, education, and/or experience. Primary Role
Responsibilities for this position establishes the day-to-day management of personnel and implementation of wastewater quality, laboratory programs, environmental stewardship and environmental rules and regulations to ensurecompliance with pertinent state and federal regulations. Responsible for assisting with maintaining budgets, committingexpenditures, and setting priorities. Maintains liaisons with individuals within and outside of the organization - keyregulatory officials and company personnel. Responsible for acting independently on technical and environmentalmatters.
Key Accountabilities
- Initiates and controls the wastewater environmental compliance program for Illinois American Water. This includes oversight of all required monitoring and reporting of sample results required under the Clean Water Act. Ensuring that the environmental program requirements are met inaccordance with the Environmental Management Plans (40%)
- Coordinates resolution of wastewater issues with State regulatory personnel and local operations. Makesdecisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative and have far-reaching impact onenvironmental activities (20%)
- Directs supportive workforce to maintain compliance with wastewater and environmental regulations and laboratory procedureswhich may include accreditation/certification for specialized parameters. (10%)
- Reviewing and determining the impact on company activities from existing and proposed regulations at thelocal, state and federal level (10%)
- Executes departmental business plans and contributes to the development of functional strategies. Assisting inpreparing capital and O&M budgets for environmental compliance related items (10%)
- Assuring that policies, programs, standards of performance and approved objectives related to wastewater and environmentalcompliance are adhered to including those involving health and safety, affirmative action, corporateresponsibility and labor relations (10%)
Knowledge/Skills
- Knowledge of science, theory and application of wastewater treatment and operations, water qualitymonitoring and quality assurance programs
- Must possess knowledge of current and emerging environmental issues and environmental regulations impacting wastewater resources and facility operations
- Knowledge of industry trade organizations to include participation in related activities aimed at improvingenvironmental program awareness and stewardship opportunities
- Must understand company goals and objectives, policies, procedures and business plans
Experience/Education
- Bachelors
- A minimum of 5 -10 years experience, depending on the level of the position in environmental management,project planning or other public programs
- Experience in the management of people, processes, technologies and budgets
Travel Requirements
- Travel may be 30%
Other
- Must hold a valid state issued drivers license
- Class 1 wastewater license preferred
