Pay/Work Schedule

This position is a union position with Illinois American Water and the starting pay rate is $33.29 and per hour.

This position may be eligible for annual incentive pay and contracted increases as determined by the collective bargaining agreement, and you will have the opportunity for continued salary growth. The regular hours of work each day will be consecutive. Work hours for the Production Technician Relief Operator are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm Monday through Friday unless in the relief role, covering every vacation, call off or other scheduled time off respect to the rotating shift hours. The Production Technician relief operator will be included in and required to perform Call Out duties as described in the current IUOE Local 148 contract.  Emergencies and extenuating circumstances may require temporary schedule changes. 

 

Primary Role

Operates chemical feed systems and performs required process control testing and analysis. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for the task necessary to maintain and ensure reliable operation of water treatment facilities, tank sites, and booster stations technical, including work on pumps, chemical feed systems, and controls.  The successful candidate will be given tasks that require electrical, mechanical and water treatment facilities knowledge in addition to operations of heavy equipment including a forklift, any other duties as assigned by management.

 

Duties will include having a strong knowledge of safety and operations policies and procedures.  Administration duties in both written and oral formats. Strong communication with management staff on daily operations of water treatment facilities. Responsible for routine water quality lab sampling, regulating flow of the water treatment plant, maintaining required pressure, and ensuring IEPA requirements are met. Play an active role in the development and maintaining SOPs. Support planning and execution of capital work. Perform routine and special maintenance of tanks, pumps and pumping equipment. Utilize system of records i.e. MapCall, Waterly, GIS as required. Routine maintenance task, water sampling and facility inspections.

Will be required to obtain and maintain an Illinois IEPA Water Treatment Class A license based on union contract.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Operates chemical feed systems and performs required process control testing and analysis. 
  • Fills day tanks.
  • Calibrates chemical feed pumps, including checking chemical feeds at outlying stations that may be required. 
  • Receives and tests chemical deliveries. 
  • Performs routine maintenance and housekeeping, depending on actual working assignment. 
  • Performs relief duties for shift treatment Operator (ESL mini-lab), as required or as assigned.

Experience/Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • 0-3 years of experience in the water or wastewater industry preferred.

 

Licenses/Certifications

Valid Driver’s license.

This position will require obtaining a Class C water certificate within 2 years of hire date and a Class A within 4 years.
