Join the team at Tennessee American Water and help provide clean, safe, and reliable water service to the community. We are seeking a dedicated Master Mechanic to join our operations team in Chattanooga, TN.

Primary Role
Maintains and repairs machinery, equipment, physical structures, piping, and electrical systems in water treatment and pumping facilities.
Key Accountabilities
- Constantly visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment.
- Constantly listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine.
- Constantly dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts.
- Constantly cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
- Constantly installs and repairs electrical apparatus such as transformers, wiring, electrical or electronic components of machinery and equipment.
- Constantly assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment. Occasionally repairs and maintains physical structure of establishment.
- Occasionally sets up and operates machine tools such as grinder, drill, and milling machine to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs, and fixtures, and tools. Occasionally operates cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience/Education
High school graduate or state-recognized educational equivalency certificate.
Specific vocational preparation includes an occupationally significant combination of vocational education, apprentice training, in-plant training, on-the job training, or essential experience.
Attendance at company training or outside training classes, as assigned.
Work Environment
- Work is primarily outside and routinely being exposed to outdoor weather conditions involving contact with water and other liquids.
- Atmospheric condition with moisture content sufficiently high to cause marked bodily discomfort.
- Exposure to ambient temperature extremes both hot and cold.
- Works near gasoline, oil, chlorine, sodium hypochlorite, fluoride, carbon, lime, lubricants, contact cleaners, alum, polyaluminum chloride, filter aid, zinc orthophosphate, etc.
- Potential exposure to poison ivy, oak, sumac, snakes, insects, and chemicals.
- Potential hazards include working near electrical machines, motors, noise in excess of 100 decibels, and working or driving in darkness.
